There were lots of local charities on the table when we were trying to find one to support. We’d been aware of Devon Freewheelers for a while now, and the vital work that they do to fill in a service that is not provided by local or national government and is not funded or organised by the NHS.
“It really struck me that the freewheelers are the only people that actually transport much neede blood around Devon for victims of accidents and those needing blood to assist with other medical treatment. The fact that there is no provision for this by the government is astounding. That’s why I wanted to support Devon Freewheelers.”
Alex Jackson | Director
It was also important to us to pick a local charity which would have broad support across the areas we were performing the show. When our friends at Pecorama agreed that the freewheelers would be a great choice for their charity of the year, we decided it would link up nicely with our performances there to also support the freewheelers at Sidmouth. Especially since there would be a lot of audience members coming from Honiton, Seaton and the surrounding area which is all served by the freewheelers.
“The money raised by the City of Light Theatre, will be used to fuel the Blood Bikes and also help towards the maintenance costs of the bike. The charity receives no money from the NHS for the Blood Bike service, so fundraising is vitally important to enable the charity to continue ‘Riding to Save Lives’”
